Notes: In hanakotoba (花言葉), the Japanese language of flowers, the flamingo flower (大紅団扇) symbolizes “worldly desires” (煩悩) and “a heart troubled by love” (恋にもだえる心). The color of the flamingo flower is also important in hanakotoba. The red flamingo flower symbolizes “passion” (情熱), the white flamingo flower symbolizes “enthusiasm” (熱心), and the pink flamingo flower symbolizes “unadorned beauty” (飾らない美しさ).
