It was almost three months after graduation when you found out you had a younger sister. To say you were shocked would be an understatement.
The blow was barely lessened when your father admitted he only found out about his six-year-old child the day before.
You don’t remember much of what he said that day, having strongly focused on not doing the math because, if you had let your mind wander, then your overthinking mind would have made the simple calculation that your father’s affair had happened while your mom was sick in the hospital. Luckily for your father, that calculation was done during the next day or two…
You had already known the little get-together had a hidden motive other than letting you meet your sister for the first time, but nevertheless, you were still surprised when your father asked if your sister could live with you. You were still angry when you realized he was again throwing the responsibility of raising a child onto someone else. You were still furious at him ― after your mom died, was there ever a conversation between the two of you that didn’t end with you being furious?
And yet, even though you had every right to be angry, you couldn’t find it in yourself to deny his request and turn away a little child who now solely depended on you.
